When I first started writing again, the lure of going to writers’ conferences enticed me, but I shied away from the expense. Plus, it seemed so intimidating, and I hadn’t finished writing anything yet. The dream was there, and I knew someday, when I could justify the expense, I’d go.
I started taking random creative writing classes and joined different writing communities trying to find some stable ground to grow as a writer. One of my critique partners introduced me to the Southwest Washington Writers Conference. Not only was this a conference I could afford but I could justify the value because of the workshops offered.
The day of the conference I soaked everything in like a dry luffa. On our way home, my friend and I basked in the glorious aha moments of the day. My biggest aha is that I wish I’d done this sooner.
The following year, I volunteered.
One of my favorite things about this conference is hearing someone say, “I had an aha moment” or “I’ve been struggling with this for years but the way that workshop instructor explained it—made sense to me. I finally get it.”
No matter where you are on your writing journey, our conference is for you. You’ll learn from other writers with experience and come away with enthusiasm, connections, and even an aha moment or two.
We can’t wait to welcome you.
